The Fragrances of Spring

Flowers are blooming, warm breezes are blowing, and Spring is here! As leaves unfurl on the trees, small buds appear on the bushes and the grass becomes green again, all of life begins to revel in the warmth of the season. After the winter’s cold, it seems the entire world is starting anew. The fresh smells of Springtime invigorate and motivate us to also want to begin again.

Springtime is a time of change, a time of reawakening to a more active lifestyle. We recommit to our exercise programs and better eating habits; we wash our cars, and deep clean our homes. Our motto becomes “out with the old and in with the new”.

Aromas are closely linked to memories and emotions. How often have you smelled a fragrance that immediately reminded you of a time or place from your past? Or an aroma that made you feel happy, invigorated or reminiscent? You can support yourself in your warm weather endeavors by choosing a scent that motivates and inspires you toward your desired actions.

Is there a particular scent that reminds you of the Spring time? Perhaps apple or orange blossoms or the scent of fresh meadows or mountain breezes? Do you long for the beach when the weather begins to warm? Does the smell of citrus make you feel alive and like being more active? Whatever aroma inspires you, you can find a scented candle to bring that scent to life in your home.

Jar candles are a wonderful addition to the home. They are able to be carried from room to room, so wherever you are, you can enjoy their aroma. They are clean and do not drip. They come in a wide variety of scents, colors and styles to not only freshen, but to add a decorative element to your room. Whether you are relaxing in the tub, walking on the treadmill, or watching TV, your inspirational scent can be your constant companion.

Using a variety of candles whose fragrances inspire you is a way to add depth and a unique character to your home’s ambience. Each fragrance can be sorted into a category based on its source: floral, (flower scents like gardenia and rose); earthy, (sandalwood, patchouli, musk and vanilla); herbal, (mint, sage, lavender, and green tea) and fruity, (melon, cucumber, apple, and pear). Combining is most successful when you choose candles from a variety of different categories, like a floral and an earthy scent, or an herbal and a fruit. One of the favorites in our home is vanilla and grapefruit.

You can also make your candle choices based on color. Choose colors that compliment those of your room’s décor. An arrangement of candles can create a pleasing focal point on a coffee table or as a centerpiece. Place the candles on a glass table or a mirror tile for added luminosity, or couple them with thematic decorative items for parties or activities. They will not only add beauty and texture to your room, but will fill it with fragrance.

Be creative. Be adventurous. Try out different styles, types and fragrances. Make your choices based on what makes you feel joyous, motivated and invigorated. Step into this Spring season with a new attitude and let Cracklin’ Candles light your way.

  1. Hi,

I like candles a lot and use them in my home most all of the time. I liked your suggestions on combining candles for a personalized fragrance. I like sandlewood scents, but they are too heavy for spring. Do you think if I added an herb or a flower that it would lighten it up? Maybe melon or vanilla or mint? What would blend well?
